Dot’s life will be celebrated Saturday, January 14th at 11:00 A.M. at Morgan Hill Bible Church 15055 Monterey Road.
Dot Tykol died peacefully in her sleep at the age of 94 during a brief respite at Pacific Hills Manor in Morgan Hill, California.
Born Dorothy Mae Bryan in Gilroy, Dot lived nearly her entire life in Morgan Hill, the last 51 years in the house she designed on Claremont Drive. In her youth, she attended Live Oak High School and Salinas Junior College, then married William (Bill) Tykol on July 4th, 1942, before he was deployed overseas during WWII.
After the war, Dot was a homemaker and Bill worked for the telephone company, setting up relay stations.
Eventually, Bill took ownership of a Standard Chevron gas station owned by Dot’s father at Old Monterey Road and First Street, and Dot did the accounting.
Dot and Bill’s first child, Daniel, was stillborn, then came Judy, Tom and David.
Dot and Bill volunteered for many school, church and community activities. Her second birthday, when she received the Lord, was May 6, 1966. Originally a member of the Presbyterian Church, she became a member of Morgan Hill Bible Church. With a forgiving world view, a great memory for names (even at 94!) and an outgoing disposition, she made many dear friends. Next to God, her family was most important in her life.
Dot is survived by her sons Tom and David, five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren (one, a girl, born on her birthday in 2011 and one currently on the way), her brother Bill, her son-in-law, Dave, and former daughter-in-law, Judy, and loving nieces and nephews, including Sherry, Marianne and George. She was preceded in death by her parents, Newt and Hattie Bryan, her sister Margaret, her brother John, her daughter Judy, in 2005, and her husband of 65 years, Bill, in 2008.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Morgan Hill Bible Church, the Alzheimer’s Association or the charity of your choice.
