Dorothy Whitney Spivey died June 23, 2004 at Hazel Hawkins Hospital of a heart attack. She was 91 years-old.

A native of Long Island, N.Y., she came to California with her parents when she was an infant. Her parents owned and operated one of the first movie houses in San Jose. It was called the Lyric Theater. Dorothy was married for over twenty years, had three children and worked as a bookkeeper and in real estate until she retired. She began to fulfill a lifelong dream of being a writer. She published several pieces, was a longtime member of the Penwomen Society and was in the final editing of her book “Who is God, anyway?” She was a very active and young 91 year-old and will be missed by those she left behind.

She is survived by her two daughters and her brother.

A simple graveside service will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in San Jose on July 9, 1 p.m. There will be a memorial service following the funeral at her residence of 14 years in Hollister.
