Victims airlifted

HOLLISTER

A 20-year-old Hollister man was flown to a San Jose hospital Monday morning after he had collided with a pole on Union Road and complained of pain to emergency responders, according to a California Highway Patrol spokeswoman.

Ruben Valdez, driving a 1992 Acura Integra, was westbound on Union Road toward Highway 156 shortly after 7 a.m. when he hit a utility pole, said Officer Erica Elias of the Hollister area CHP office in Gilroy. The accident caused power lines to fall, and authorities closed the road for an unknown amount of time, said Elias, who was not sure what led to Valdez driving off Union Road, about a half-mile east of Geneil Court.

Valdez was airlifted to a San Jose hospital, Elias said. With privacy laws, his condition is unclear, as a spokeswoman with Regional Medical Center of San Jose could only say he was not there today.

Elias said she did not believe authorities suspect alcohol or drugs contributed to the accident.
