The “sobriety/driver’s license” checkpoint was established in the 1700 block of Airline Highway. There were 531 vehicles screened during the operation, according to a press statement.
Along with five arrests for driving under the influence, police cited another 11 drivers for lacking a valid driver’s license or driving with a suspended license, according to police.
Funding for this operation was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The Hollister Police Department will be conducting more sobriety checkpoints and special enforcement saturation patrols to encourage sober driving in the community.
