A fight broke out between about a half-dozen men Wednesday afternoon near downtown Hollister at 35 East Street, resulting in some scrapes and bumps but no serious injury.
Hollister Police did not make any arrests at the scene and said the District Attorney’s office will decide whether to charge the men.
The opposing sides in the brawl stood on opposite ends of the street while police questioned everyone involved. One man from each group was marked up by the fight, including one who had a bloodied eye. The other had a small abrasion on his lower back.
One witness, who asked not to be identified, said a group of four or five men armed with a golf club and stick opposed two others.
“I just heard yelling and looked out the window,” the witness said.
“Somebody threw something at my car,” said the man whose back was cut, who also asked not to be identified. “I don’t know why. I don’t know if it was intentional.”
Police said both sides’ statements were contradictory and could not give a definitive statement on what happened before or during the fight or the exact number of men involved.
Police also did not comment on whether the scuffle was gang-related. However, one of the men involved was shirtless and had a large “14” tattooed across his back while another wore a Los Angeles Raiders jersey with the number 14.
The number is associated with the Norteno gang because ‘N’ is the 14th letter of the alphabet.
