Eleanor M. Lanini was born to Bill and Viola Maggini in Santa Clara County March 23, 1923, and “graduated” from earth to heaven in Hollister August 13, 2014.
Eleanor attended Ausaymas Elementary School and San Benito High School in Hollister and graduated from Heald Business College in San Jose.
Eleanor married Roy J. Lanini in 1944. Afrer living a few years in both Ukiah and Calistoga, they settled in Salinas where Roy was an instructor at Hartnell College and Eleanor managed the family poultry and sheep farm.
Roy and Eleanor were instrumental in the formation of Del Norte 4-H Club in Salinas and shared community leader responsibilities for that club until Roy’s untimely death in 1968. Eleanor continued as Community Leader for the club for a period of years after Roy’s death.
In the mid-1970s, Eleanor moved back to her parents’ farm on Churchill Road, Hollister (now Swank Farms) where she resided until her final illness.
She was active in the Fishes and Loaves ministry at Sacre Heart Catholic Church, the Mariners ministry at First Presbyterian Church and the Hollister Camera Club.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her daughter, Wilma Svetz. She is survived by her sister, Frances Swank, her son, Jere Lanini (Marilyn), daughters Dorothy Shields (David) and Ruth Wilson (Jim), eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
