 Elmer was born and raised in Hollister, and in 1943 enlisted in the US Navy to serve in WW II aboard the USS Tweedy.
 In November of 1943, he married his wife of 63 years, Julia Pasos, also of Hollister. Together they owned a farm in Gustine which they bought in 1953 and it was there they raised their two children.
 Elmer retired from farming in the 1970’s and continued to live with his wife on the farm.
 He is survived by his daughter, Judy Cabral of Cherry Valley, CA and his son, Gene Azevedo of Palm Springs, CA. He is also survived by one brother in Hollister, Alfred Azevedo.
 Elmer passed away on July 9, 2016 in Hollister, CA, at the age of 96.
