Emery Harrison “Ryon” Smith III died suddenly in Hollister on Sunday, Oct. 12. He was 25.
Ryon was born in Santa Clara, July 19, 1978. He moved to San Benito County in 1990.
He attended Freedom School in Watsonville, Rancho San Justo Middle School and San Benito High School, where he graduated in 1996
He attended one year of Rhema Bible Training Center in Broken Arrow, Okla., and two years of Life Bible College in San Dimas, Calif.
Ryon was a member of Abundant Life Foursquare Church, a junior high and high school youth leader and a sound technician. He worked as a sales representative for Communications Unlimited for one year.
His passions included serving others, his youth ministry, loving family and friends, skateboarding, mountain biking, paintball, surfing, sky diving, Mexican food, sushi, football and Christian music.
He lived by the motto the Rev. Robert Rufener stated: “The goal of being a Christian is not to get saved. The goal of Christianity is to live a Christ-like life.”
Ryon is survived by his parents Emery H. and Della Smith of Hollister; brothers Nicholas, Matthew and Jeffrey Smith of Hollister; sister Amanda Smith of Hollister; maternal grandparents Bill and Virginia Osborn of Klamath Falls, Ore.; aunts and uncles Gordon and Joan Smith of Santa Cruz, and Sylvia and Rob Sargeant of Seattle, Wash., Ellen Smith of Florida, Bob Osborn of Los Osos, Calif., and Ed and Leona Osborn of Los Osos, Calif.; and cousins Hilary, Brittany, Vickie, Robbie and Tad.
Friends are invited to a celebration of Ryon’s life Thursday, Oct. 16 at 1 p.m. at Abundant Life Foursquare Church.
Private inurnment has been held at Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson Crematory.
Donations may be sent to Youth Summer Camp Scholarship Fund in care of Abundant Life Church or Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson Funeral Home.
