Erma Mae Bartkowski died Sunday morning at the Mabie Skilled Nursing Center after a lengthly illness. She was 91 years-old.

A native of North Dakota, she came to California in 1937 and lived for many years in the San Jose area. Erma has lived in Hollister for the past three years.

As a young woman before she married, she sang on radio in Fargo, North Dakota and had appeared once on the Lawrence Welk Show. She loved music having played the piano and organ along with singing. She also was an avid dancer. Before retirement, Erma was owner and partner of Tony’s Wheel Estate for 23 years (a mobil-home sales business).

Her late husband, Adolph “Bart” Bartkowski died in 1972. She is the mother of Clark Bartkowski and wife, Phyllis, of Darby, Mont.; Kent Bartkowski and wife, Kit, of Hollister and Linda Dodds of San Jose. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial Mass will be offered Thursday morning at 11 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Tres Pinos. Private inurnment will follow at Los Gatos Cemetery in Los Gatos. Funeral and cremation arrangements are under the direction of Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson Funeral Home and Crematory of Hollister.
