A fire today burned 10 acres of grass near Salinas Road in the San Juan Bautista area.

The fire was sparked by the heat from welding at 12:13 p.m. and quickly burned through the grass and trees in the area before firefighters extinguished the fire at 1:50 p.m., said Calfire spokesman Sam Walker.

The fire burned no structures, and the only injury was to a firefighter who had heat exhaustion.

Eighty-seven firefighters were called to the scene.
