Burnt debris sits out side the back entry to Superior Bakery after it caught fire early Tuesday morning.

A fire reported around midnight damaged Superior Bakery on San Juan Road and resulted in smoke spreading to neighboring businesses in the west-side shopping center.

The Hollister Fire Department received the report at 12:03 a.m. Tuesday morning of a fire at Superior Bakery, 1290 San Juan Road, which is part of a shopping center that includes Hollister Super Market. There were no injuries caused by the blaze.

There was “extensive” damage to the bakery, though, with the fire starting in the back of the business in a preparation area, said Capt. Jeff Granucci with the Hollister Fire Department.

Authorities do not believe anyone was in the building at the time. The incident remains under investigation, and the cause is unclear, he said.

“Somebody happened to call driving by,” Grannuci said.

Grannuci said some smoke spread to other area businesses, including the supermarket.
