Five teenage males were arrested for fighting on a bus after school Thursday, according to police.
The “boxing match” involving about eight teenagers happened on a local VTA community bus after school, about 3:25 p.m., Morgan Hill Police Cmdr. Joe Sampson said. The bus driver reported the fighting, and police met the bus at its regular stop at Main Avenue and Monterey Road, and arrested five of the pugilists, though “three or four” others fled on foot, Sampson said.
No weapons were involved, and the fighters displayed minor injuries that did not require medical treatment.
Police think the juveniles were affiliated with local street gangs, though they were not previously known as gang members. Sampson said those who ran away were wearing red shirts that he described as “customary Norteno (street gang) colors.” Those arrested were between the ages of 14 and 16, Sampson said. Two were wearing red clothing, while three were wearing blue, which is often associated with a rival Sureno gang.
They were issued juvenile citations and reported to their parents, Sampson said.
The incident happened on community bus route 16, which serves a stop at Live Oak High School. Sampson said the fighters appeared to be students at Live Oak.
