Authorities have identified the San Francisco woman who died in a vehicle crash Friday morning on Interstate 880.

Alice Joy, 27, died while riding on a three-wheel motorcycle being driven by a man while southbound on I-880, an Alameda County Coroner’s Bureau official said.

Joy was a reporter for the Hollister Free Lance from January 2007 through December 2007, while she resided in San Juan Bautista during that time.

For an unknown reason, the motorcycle crashed into a center divider on the freeway about 11:45 a.m., just north of Jackson Street, California Highway Patrol officer Sam Morgan said.

It appeared that Joy was riding on the back of the motorcycle, but the investigation is ongoing, police said. Authorities still are trying to determine what caused the accident, Morgan said.

Authorities have not yet determined Joy’s exact cause of death, a coroner official said.

The driver of the motorcycle also was injured and transported to an area hospital for treatment, police said.

The Free Lance staff contributed to this report.
