The teacher accused of lewd or lascivious acts with three third-grade students at San Juan School met a reduced bail of $350,000 last week and has been released from jail with some provisions as his court case continues.
Joseph B. Hudson, 58, of Hollister, was released from the San Benito County Jail on Thursday after posting a property bond to meet his $350,000 bail, according to court records.
Hudson’s bail had been reduced at a court hearing June 3 from the original amount of $500,000, according to records. He posted it the following morning and was released to attorney William Tiffany.
Judge Steven Sanders ordered that Hudson stay at least 100 yards away from any children he has taught in the past two years. He also required that an alcohol monitor be placed on Hudson, who cannot have or consume alcohol on his property, according to the judge’s order.
Hudson was arrested at his Hollister home May 14. The sheriff’s office recommended 30 counts of lewd or lascivious acts. The district attorney’s office charged Hudson on suspicion of the three counts while alleging the incidents occurred May 12, March 1 and Sept. 1, 2008, according to court documents.
He has pleaded not guilty to all of the charges. If convicted, he could spend up to eight years in prison for each of the counts.
