From 2:30 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 20 Gavilan College will host a Celebration of the Life of Don Santana at the Maycock Faculty House on campus at 5055 Santa Teresa Blvd.

The gathering invites all students, loved ones and former students to commemorate the life of Don Santana, a life sciences professor at Gavilan who passed away in January 2011.

Santana was born in 1943 in San Gabriel, California. He studied at Humboldt State University and received a doctorate from University of California, Davis.

According to a statement from Gavilan, Santana was known for his love of nature and passion for environmental stewardship which he shared with generations of students. The statement describes Santana as an active participant in shaping Gavilan College and its faculty, an environmental leader, a role model and a good friend.
