A 16-year-old girl reported to Hollister police that a man attempted to kidnap her with a knife Tuesday night before she elbowed him and escaped, according to a statement from police.

Police responded at about 11:30 p.m. to a report of an attempted robbery at Miller Road and Central Avenue.

The girl told police she had been walking home when an unknown male approached her from behind and put a knife to her throat, telling her to stay quiet and walk, according to police.

They walked west on Central Avenue “while the male subject maintained a knife to her throat and his arm over her shoulder,” according to police. She said the suspect did not demand money or anything else. She described him as Hispanic, 30 to 35 years old and about 5-foot-five; with an average build, a gray sweatshirt and black sweat pants. Police also said the man was clean shaven and spoke with a thick Spanish accent.

According to police: “Upon reaching the intersection of Central Avenue and Matulich Court, the young girl stopped walking and elbowed the suspect in the stomach. She was able to get away. The suspect then ran from the scene and was last seen eastbound on Central Avenue.”
