Gloria Placenzia Vega passed away peacefully at the age of 92 on August 29th 2014. Gloria was born in San Juan de los Lagos, Jalisco Mexico on February 22, 1922.
She immigrated to Los Angeles, CA at an early age when her father went to work for the Santa Fe Railroad.
After her father’s sudden death in the early days of the great depression, the family, like many, found work as migrant laborers. Their journey on the migrant trail ended in Gilroy CA. in 1936 where the family put down roots. In 1943 at a WWII Red Cross dance in Salinas she met Joseph Vega a young soldier from Sequin, TX.
Upon his return from duty in Italy and France, they were married on August 15th 1945 hours later victory over Japan was announced and WWII had ended. They were married for nearly 58 years until Joseph’s passing in 2003.
She was a true product of our greatest generation, devoted wife and mother to five children and eight grandchildren while working for over 27 years for Gentry’s Corporation.
Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, Francisco and Maria Placenzia, siblings, Rufina, Walter and Jessie.
She is survived by her sister Rose Vargas of San Carlos, CA. Her children and spouses, Robert and Carol Vega of Glenwood City, WI, Patricia and Paul Kloecker of Gilroy CA, Benjamin and Tina Vega of Gilroy CA, Al and Rhonda Vega of Wildwood MO and Laura and Mike Simoneau of Madison, CT.
She is also survived by her grandchildren, Valerie Weingaarten of Albany CA. Joseph Kloecker of, Gilroy, Elizabeth Vega of Milwaukee WI., Benjamin and Alexander Vega of Gilroy, Patrick Vega of Wildwood MO, and Jennifer and Jalen Simoneau of Madison, CT.
