Hollister – Thousands are expected to attend a memorial service Thursday for fallen firefighter Matthew Will at Bolado Park, and the governor may be there to pay his respects.
CalFire Public Information Officer Marie Sager said there is a possibility that Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger may attend. The governor’s press office would not confirm Tuesday if the governor was planning to attend the service.
Will, a 30-year-old Hollister resident, died Oct. 9 from injuries suffered after his bulldozer rolled over while fighting the Colorado Fire near Big Sur the day before. He is survived by his wife, Diana Will, and their 10-year-old son Trysten and 8-year-old daughter Elsie.
At 12:30pm Thursday, a small funeral procession of firefighters and family members will leave the CalFire Hollister Air Attack Base on San Felipe Road and make its way to Bolado Park.
Organizers welcome community members to pay their respects as the procession goes through town. Suggested gathering points are along San Benito Street, at the Hollister Fire Department’s second station at Union Road and Airline Highway or the Tres Pinos Elementary School.
The memorial service is open to the public and will begin at 2pm Thursday. Organizers ask attendees to arrive at noon. There will also be a barbecue after the service, according to organizers.
