The Gilroy Police Department is investigating a stabbing
incident, which also resulted in an arrest of the victim’s friend
at a local hospital, as a gang crime.
The Gilroy Police Department is investigating a stabbing incident, which also resulted in an arrest of the victim’s friend at a local hospital, as a gang crime.
At about 6:37 p.m. Sunday, police said they were alerted by staff at a local hospital that an 18-year-old Hollister resident had been brought to the emergency room.
Upon arriving at the hospital, police said they contacted the victim and found him to be suffering from a serious, but nonlife threatening stab wound. The victim was uncooperative with police and provided several different accounts of when and where the stabbing took place, according to the GPD in a press release.
Police then interviewed 18-year-old Jesus Castro, who had driven the victim to the hospital, and said he was also uncooperative and became belligerent when he wasn’t allowed to see the victim.
According to police, Castro became disruptive and threatening and was asked to leave the hospital by staff and police.
Police said Castro refused the requests, resulting in his arrest on charges of trespassing and resisting, obstructing or delaying an officer.
Castro was booked at the Gilroy police jail and then transported to the Santa Clara County Main Jail.
The GPD is treating this case as a gang crime based on information obtained during the investigation.
