A man carrying a concealed firearm was arrested by Hollister Police on Saturday.

Pedro Ramirez, 37, of Hollister was arrested for carrying a concealed firearm, carrying a loaded firearm, resisting arrest, evading, DUI, and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

The San Benito County Sheriff’s office was dispatched to the area of Union and Cienega Roads at about 7:30 p.m. Saturday evening as reports came in of a person shooting a handgun from a black, lowered pickup. Hollister Police located the vehicle on Memorial Drive.

Officer Tong attempted a traffic stop and the truck failed to yield. Several passengers fled the truck in the area of Memorial Drive and Sunnyslope Road, but the truck continued.

Officer Tong stayed behind the truck. Suspect Ramirez, the truck’s driver stopped near Ladd Lane School and fled the truck on foot. A short foot pursuit ensued and Ramirez was apprehended by Officer Tong after a brief struggle.

Officer Tong located a loaded semi-automatic handgun on the suspect’s person. Ramirez was booked at San Benito County Jail on the listed charges.
