Five weeks after 11-year-old Joshua Rodriguez was hit and killed by a county transit bus, the Hollister Police Department is continuing to work on the investigation while awaiting results, the police chief said.
Chief David Westrick said he was unsure when the case report would be done and that the timing would be based on results the department must get back. The chief did not specify what those results were.
“No comment, yet,” he said. “We need to do a press release first.”
Police have yet to comment on a narrative of what may have occurred at the scene July 27 at Memorial Drive and Verdun Avenue, whether they believe any negligence was involved or if the boy was wearing a helmet. It is also unclear how many people may have witnessed the accident.
A statement from Westrick before the release of the boy’s identity said that the victim was given CPR on scene and transported by ambulance to the hospital where—despite “prolonged life-saving efforts”—he was pronounced deceased. According to the initial statement, the other involved party, the bus driver, was located and “contacted at the scene of the incident.”
Look back for more.
