Hollister – Police arrested a Hollister woman for felony robbery Thursday after a clandestine early morning beer run went awry and she was left without her beer or the shirt on her back.
After searching for 26-year-old Dolores Marie Martinez, a transient, who had been identified as the assailant in a strong-arm robbery at Hollister Drive-In Market last month, police finally found and arrested her on San Felipe Road around 5:30pm on Thursday, said Capt. Richard Vasquez.
Martinez allegedly entered the market located on Fourth Street just before 9am on Jan. 12 wearing a large coat, Vasquez said. A clerk told police he saw her put a 40 ounce bottle of King Cobra beer under her jacket and attempt to walk out of the store, Vasquez said.
When the clerk told her to stop before leaving with the beverage, she shoved him with both hands and ran out of the store, he said.
In an attempt to recover his merchandise and apprehend the thief, the clerk grabbed onto Martinez’s jacket, who wiggled out of it and kept running, Vasquez said.
She was last seen running down Line Street wearing only a bra, he said.
After giving police a description of the woman and through further investigation, detectives concluded Martinez was the person they were looking. Officers responding to an unrelated incident on San Felipe Road on Thursday saw Martinez and took her into custody for the robbery, Vasquez said.
A witness then positively identified her as the assailant in the January incident.
Martinez was booked into the San Benito County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail. Felony robbery is punishable by imprisonment for up to six years, according to the state’s penal code.
