meeting.
Hollister – The Hollister School District Board of Trustees voted unanimously in favor of the 2007-08 budget at Tuesday’s meeting.
The overall budget calls for $8,824,005 in expenses from the general fund, with no major cuts to school programs. Officials hope that by planning their budget conservatively, they will be able to help stabilize future budget problems.
Trustee Randal Phelps said he was happy to see the district’s administrators planning for the future.
“I really appreciate the district honestly projecting out and looking at where our weaknesses are going to be,” Phelps said.
It has been projected that the district will be getting less state funding in the future, because the cost of living increase provided by state funding will not be as high.
While the finalized budget has been approved by the board, there could still be changes made to it throughout the year. The state budget has not been passed by the legislature, so any changes made to education funding could affect the budget.
“The budget has been a yearlong process,” Board President Alice Flores said. “By doing it this way we can be prepared for any changes. It gives us a little wiggle room to dance with the state of California.”
