Howard R. Basch May 29, 1919 – September 11, 2012 Howard was born in Oakland on May 26, 1919 to Dorothy and Joseph Basch. Howard died at the age of 93 on September 11, 2012. He was predeceased by his brother Fran and sister Dorothy.
Howard served in the Navy in WWII as a radioman and tail gunner flying Grumann Avengers off 3 escort carriers: Natoma Bay, the Card and the Block Island. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, American Defense Ribbon, European-North Africa Middle-East Ribbon, Asia-Pacific Ribbon and three air medals.
Howard has three sons Doug, David and Don with his first wife Mary Davy Petersen and later married Aileen Rovere.
Howard lived in Oakland until he moved to Houston in 1958 and finally Gilroy where he became General Manager of Gentry’s.
Howard was a fisherman, golfer, archer, rock carver and avid poker player.
Howard had a keen sense of humor and always told a joke! He was truly part of the Greatest Generation and will be missed, always loved. RIP, Pop!
