The Free Lance, for whatever reason, has given Ignacio Velazquez Carte Blanche to write anything he wishes. By printing the Ignacio Velazquez column, the Free Lance, by definition, endorses his writings. The Ignacio Velazquez column is scary since it has all the makings of bad things past. Like the Citizens Voice, the Ignacio Velazquez column is counter-productive and divides the community.

Opinion columns should not be reserved for spoiled and unhappy business people of the community that spew hate, innuendos, half-truths and lies. That’s what the Citizens Voice is for. The Free Lance needs to be responsible for those who write opinion pieces on a regular basis. The community deserves better from the Free Lance. Unless the paper is paying Ignacio Velazquez for his opinion, the Free Lance should put itself above such divisive opinion writing and at the most, put the Velazquez piece as a Letter to the Editor.
