Hollister fire investigators know the point of origin for a house fire early this week on Alta Vista Way but remain unclear about a cause.

Nobody was injured in the small fire that burned through the back end of a house on the 1500 block of Alta Vista Way at about 1:20 p.m. Monday. The blaze burned for nearly 20 minutes as firefighters worked to contain the fire in the house.

Fire chief Fred Cheshire on Friday said it occurred in the master bedroom, but investigators “were unable to determine the heat source.” He said they have ruled out an electrical cause.

The blaze first lit up on clothing, he said.

Resident Steve Castillo was at the home with his wife at the time of the fire, he said. His dad, who owns the home, was not there.

At the time, he said he believed the fire started in this father’s bedroom, which is in the back of the home. He was not sure how it started.

Castillo tried to stop the fire by swiping at it with a towel, but the fire already was too big.

Cheshire said investigators did not “see anything suspicious” about the fire.
