Gilroy resident James L. DeBenedetti died Monday, April 14, 2003 after a long battle with cancer. He was 53.

Mr. DeBenedetti was born in Concord. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the age of 18 and served in Vietnam. He later graduated from the University of California, San Diego with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and began a career as a systems test engineer with Lockheed Martin. Over his 20 years with the company he was director of the Eastern Test Range at Cape Canaveral, Fla., and director of the PLV program in Sunnyvale.

He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Mary A. DeBenedetti of Gilroy; his children, Joseph H. DeBenedetti and Anthony L. DeBenedetti, both of Gilroy, and Maria A. DeBenedetti of Irvine.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Ida Mae DeBenedetti, and his brother, Steven H. DeBenedetti.

Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Monday, April 21 at Habing Family Funeral Home in Gilroy. Funeral services will be held Monday at 7 p.m. at the funeral home with interment Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Memory Gardens Memorial Park in Concord.

Memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society.
