Janet (Pometta) Torrano died on Oct. 4 at her Hollister home
after a long struggle with cancer. She was 68 years old.
She was born in Petaluma and has been a resident of Hollister
for the past 28 years. She was a graduate of St. Joseph’s School of
Nursing in San Francisco and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1965
to 1967 during the Vietnam War.

She was born in Petaluma and has been a resident of Hollister for the past 28 years. She was a graduate of St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in San Francisco and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1965 to 1967 during the Vietnam War.

She worked in several hospitals, VA Hospital in Palo Alto, Eden Hospital in Castro Valley, Fairmont Hospital in San Leandro, Hazel Hawkins Hospital in Hollister and Southside Nursing Home in Hollister. She and her husband, Frank, were married in 1969 in Petaluma.

She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Frank Torrano of Hollister; daughters, Anita Torrano of Livermore and Barbara Hourigan and her husband, Skip Hourigan, of San Ramon; her grandson Garrett Francis Hourigan of San Ramon; her sisters, Beverly Ceresa of Petaluma, Linda Schulze of Petaluma and Margie Proctor of Rohnert Park. She was preceded in death by her brother Fr. Gary Pometta.

Friends may call at Black Cooper Sander Funeral Home in Hollister from noon until 5pm on Thursday, Oct. 7. The Rosary will be on Thursday evening at St. Benedict’s Church in Hollister at 7pm.

The Mass will be at 11am at St. Benedict’s Church on Friday, Oct. 8. Friends may come to the funeral home at 10:30am for a procession to the Church.

Committal and graveside services will follow the Mass at Calvary Cemetery. Military rites will be offered by VFW Post 9242 of Hollister. A reception will follow the services at St. Benedict’s Hall.
