Kelsey Jeffries of Hollister added to her array of championship belts when she acquired the International Female Boxing Association title with a unanimous decision over Layla McCarter last Thursday in Bakersfield.
Jeffries previously held the WIBA, WIBF and Cal State featherweight belts.
Jeffries’ scores were 100-90, 97-93 and 98-92 in the bout, which lasted 10 rounds. There were no knockdowns, though Jeffries thought she had McCarter in trouble in the seventh.
“I hit her with a big left hook,” said Jeffries. “She stayed up, but she ran a lot after that. She jabbed and ran, jabbed and ran. She never hurt me. I saw she didn’t like it when I went to her body so I kept body punching her. I was the aggressor the whole time.”
The win was huge for Jeffries’ career, but her next fight isn’t definite. There is a possibity of a fight in Ohio on Dec. 6.
