John Campbell Tipton

Long-time Hollister resident.
John Campbell Tipton, a Hollister resident for more than half a century, died Saturday, May 10, 2003 – the day before his 93rd birthday – at Hazel Hawkins Northside Convalescent Hospital, where he and his wife had lived for the past three years.

Mr. Tipton was born in Greer county, Okla. He was raised near Fort Smith, Ark. and lived in Powell, Wyo. before coming to Hollister, where he had lived for the past 56 years. He was in the fertilizer business, trucking and supplying local growers for many years. Later he was a school bus driver for the San Juan School District and then for the San Benito School District. The last surviving son of 10 children, he was known as a man of honesty, integrity and dignity, as well as for his sense of humor and love of life.

He is survived by his wife of more than 69 years, Bethel Mae; his children and their spouses, Duane and Catherine Tipton of Sacramento, Dave and Mia Tipton of Sunnyvale, Kathy and Jerry Stapp of Nevada City and Johnna Tipton of Santa Cruz; 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

A celebration of Mr. Tipton’s life will be held Saturday, May 17 at 2 p.m. at Ridgemark Tennis Center in Hollister. Inurnment will be private.

Arrangements and cremation are through Black Cooper Sander Funeral Home and Gavilan Hills Crematory.
