Former Hollister resident Joseph Paul Sweeney died Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2002 at his home in Reno, Nev. after a lengthy illness He was 38.

Mr Sweeney was born in Salinas and later lived in Watsonville, San Francisco and Hollister. He graduated from North Monterey County High School in 1983 and was an accountant with Salud Para La Gente in Watsonville. He was known for his humorous personality and his love of being in San Francisco.

He is survived by his partner of seven years, Eugene Garcia of Reno; his father, Edward Sweeney of Salinas; his brother, Tom Sweeney of Salinas; his sister, Ann Sweeney of Hollister; five nieces and nephews and a great-niece.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Lou, in 1969; and by his sisters, Bernadette in 1967 and Mary in 1999.

A Rosary service will be held Friday, Nov. 15 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Church in Watsonville, followed by a memorial Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the donor’s favorite charity.

Arrangements are under the direction of Mehl’s Colonial Chapel in Watsonville.
