Hollister Police Officers arrested a 15-year-old juvenile for vehicle theft on Sunday at 1:30 a.m.
Officer Rudy Rodriguez was patrolling the area of Line Street and Nash Road when he observed a white Chevrolet Caprice on the roadway traveling with its headlights off, according to a police report. Rodriguez recognized the vehicle as having previously been reported stolen. He initiated what officers referred to as a high risk vehicle stop, but the driver of the vehicle did not pull over. After a short pursuit, the driver eventually stopped at Dunne Park after the vehicle collided with a tree.
Several occupants exited the vehicle and ran from officers. A 15-year-old male was found hiding in the backyard of a home on the 500 block of Fifth Street. No other suspects were found.
The juvenile was booked into San Benito Juvenile Hall on charges of theft or unauthorized use of a vehicle, evade a peace officer with reckless driving, buying or receiving stolen property, vandalism, and resisting, obstructing or delaying a public officer.
Officers are looking for assistance in identifying the other occupants of the vehicle. Anyone with information regarding the incident is encouraged to call Rodriguez at 831-636-4330.
