Kathleen Nolan Smith was born December 28, 1948 in Scotia, CA, and passed away April 3, 2012 in Gilroy, CA. She graduated from Humboldt State University, and received her teaching credential from UC Santa Cruz. Education was her passion. She was a substitute teacher and served on the GUSD School Board.

 Kathleen was very active in the Gilroy community; participating in Leadership Gilroy and serving on several boards and commissions. She was the Report Editor for the Education Management and Assistance Corporation, and the Chairman of the Gilroy Library Commission. She was proud of her contribution to the building of the new Gilroy Library. She was a world traveler, and enjoyed spending time with her grandson Logan, family, and friends.

 Kathleen was preceded in death by her father Donald E. Nolan Sr.(Fortuna). She is survived by her mother Doris Nolan (Fortuna), son Jason, wife Trina, and grandson Logan Smith (Walnut Creek), daughter Melanie Sison (Gilroy), sister Myrita and husband Tom Henry (Petaluma), sister Eugenia Wininger (Fortuna), brother Don and wife Vickie Nolan (Fortuna), and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
