Resident of Gilroy, Ken passed away peacefully at the age of 75, on October 14, 2014, after a long battle with multiple cancers.
A devoted husband of 56 years, a family man and a caring friend, his passions included amateur radio, raising orchids, racing his Porsche, and spending time with his family.
He was an entrepreneur and started many electronic design companies.
Ken was born in San Jose, and attended San Jose High School and San Jose Jr. College.
When Ken took an interest in a hobby, he learned all aspects of it. He was in school when he became a Ham Radio operator. In the early sixties, he became a lifetime member of ARRL. In1968, he built a 16-foot radar dish in his backyard and bounced signals off the moon.
Ken has been published in QST and other Ham Radio publications. One notable article was “Beer Can Balan”.
Ken co-founded KLM Electronics, founded Mirage Communications, RF Concepts, and teaming up with his wife, published Electro Buyers’ Guide. Ken was an active builder and experimenter on the UHF & VHF Bands. He was an early participant in 1296 mhz and 50 mhz EME.
At one time, Ken and his wife, Jacqui, belonged to eight orchid societies and traveled throughout California, attending meetings.
In the 1990’s, Ken was the co-founder of Orchids in the Park, an annual orchid sale held in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park.
Ken always tinkered on his cars, and based on this love, he began restoring and racing Porsches.
Ken was an excellent outdoor chef, using his BBQ and smoker to produce great food.
Sharing his hobbies with his family were some of his happiest moments.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Jacqui Holladay, son, Ken Holladay Jr., daughters, Michelle DeGroff (Darrell), Denette Whitmer (Vince); grandchildren, Brianna Holladay-Langone (Nick), Dylan Whitmer, Colton Whitmer, and Danica DeGroff.
He was preceded, in death, by his parents, Cedric “Ted” Holladay, (Santa Clara County Game Warden) and June Holladay (I.O.O.F./Rebeccas Member).
Ken wanted to share this thought -Always enjoy your life, your family and your friends!
