Louis (“Lou”) Testaguzza passed away on September 18th, 2015, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Palo Alto, CA.
He was born on August 30, 1928, in Nanticoke, PA to Italian immigrants, Dominic and Mary Testaguzza. His father worked in the coal mines; his mother ran a boarding house.
After graduating from high school in Nanticoke, Lou enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, then transitioned to the California Air National Guard where he completed flight school and flew P51 Mustangs as well as F86 Sabre jets. He then joined the Air Force Reserve where he flew a variety of aircraft eventually retiring with the rank of Major. His flying career also included being a commercial airline pilot for American Airlines.
Lou received a B.A. from Northrup Aeronautical Institute then worked at Lockheed Missiles & Space Company, retiring after 30 years. He participated in the astronaut program and thermodynamics and surveillance satellite development during the height of the U.S. space program.
While still working for the aerospace industry, Lou attended law school at the University of San Francisco, received his J.D., then practiced law part-time for 20 years.
His passion was flying and all things aeronautical.
He enjoyed many years at Frazier Lake Air Park in Hollister, CA where he built his own hangar and frequently flew his Bonanza and Cessna 150. One of his dreams was to build his own airplane. Indeed, the last plane he flew was the amphibious Sea Rey that he and his son, Brett built.
Lou lived his life to the fullest. He always said, “Life is not a rehearsal, live it up!”
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marlene Sylva Testaguzza, his four children, Darlene Manning, Deborah Testaguzza, Denise Storm and Brett Testaguzza, his six grandchildren, his brother, Marino Testaguzza, and his sister, Julie Golanoski and several nieces and nephews.
