A mass in celebration of her life will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 11 First St. Gilroy, CA on Thursday, June 5, 2014, at 1:00 P.M., followed by burial at Pajaro Valley Memorial Park, Watsonville, CA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in honor of Lucille Therese Brazil to Hospice of the Valley, 4850 Union Avenue, San Jose, CA 95124-5156. Lucille Therese Brazil, passed away, Friday May 30th, 2014 at the age of 89 due to complications resulting from advanced dementia.
She is predeceased by her loving husband of 64 years, William A. Brazil, both longtime residents of Santa Cruz County.
Lucille leaves behind her daughter Sharyn Brazil, son Dale Brazil, five grandchildren, Therese Martin, Michael Brautovich and Monica Brautovich, Rachel Ureta and Matthew Brazil and two great-grandchildren Mikaela and Mike Brautovich and numerous nieces and nephews.
Lucille’s life was one dedicated to her family and her community. She was an advocate for the Catholic Church and served for many years as “ambassador to Pilgrim Virgin” Legion of Mary. During this time she instated the Legion in a total of 52 parishes in the diocese alone.
Lucille and her husband Bill also devoted countless hours to the Men of the Sacred Heart visiting at least 1,000 individual homes bringing the Virgin statue to each family for prayer.
She was proud of her Portuguese ancestry and was active within the local community. She loved to travel and one of the highlights of her life was a pilgrimage she made with her church to Eastern Europe. She spent time in Portugal and the Azores where she was able to connect with distant family. She and her a husband spent their retirement years traveling throughout the U.S. visiting a total of 48 states in their RV.
Lucille will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
