Lucy Kovacich died May 25, 2008, at Dominican Hospital. She was 79. A native of Mihanici, Croatia, she immigrated to the United States in 1960, settling in Hollister. She and her husband, Vince, purchased the Del Monte Cafe in 1968. Together, they worked in the restaurant for 38 years. They moved their family to Watsonville in 1971. Mrs. Kovacich attended both Our Lady Help of Christians and St. Patrick’s Catholic churches.

Mrs. Kovacich leaves her son, Peter J. (Pam) Kovacich; daughter, Kathy (Robert) Ceremsak; grandchildren, Katherine and Peter Kovacich, Kate and John Ceremsak. She also leaves 2 sisters, Catherine Dabo of Hollister and Mare Boskovic and a brother Vlaho Miljas both of Croatia; nephew, Mitchell Dabo and nieces, Pauline Mifsud, Jane Dabo Cruz, and Ann Marie Dabo. She is preceded in death by her husband, Vincent, in 1999, and her brother, Ivo Miljas.

A rosary will be recited Friday, 7:00 P.M., at Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, 1:00 P.M., also at the church.
