The 19 year-old Hollister man arrested by police April 5 for supposedly stabbing a 16 year-old rival gang member six times in January has been charged in San Benito County Superior Court.
Omar Aguilar, who police say is a known Sureño gang member, has been charged with attempted murder and a special allegation for being involved with a criminal street gang.
Aguilar is being held on $500,000 bail at San Benito County Jail until April 29, when he will appear in court for a preliminary hearing.
The stabbing occurred Jan. 22 at the 1300 block of Westside Boulevard. According to a Hollister police report, officers found a 15-year-old juvenile with several stab wounds in his body after a homeowner called police when the wounded man jumped over a fence and into his yard.
The victim told police he and a friend were riding a bicycle when two vehicles approached and people inside asked to which gang they belonged. The victim apparently said “Norte” and was chased for several blocks by both vehicles before he was caught, beat with a baseball bat or stick, then stabbed six times before he escaped into the 911 caller’s yard on C Street. The victim’s friend escaped without injury.
Emergency crews first transported the victim to Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital but later flew him by helicopter to a Bay Area hospital, where he recovered.
Aguilar was arrested after a San Benito County sheriff’s deputy matched his 1995 Honda Civic to a “be on the lookout” warning issued to law enforcement. Hollister police were called in after the stop and made the arrest. Later, police say, Aguilar was identified by an outside party as the stabber.
Police said they are still searching for additional suspects.
