A Hollister man in his 30s was airlifted to a Bay Area hospital around 1:15 p.m. Monday, after he lost control of his off-road motorcycle on an asphalt surface between Miller Road and Mariposa Court.

The man was northbound on Miller Road when he decided to make a turn. He lost control of the dirt bike and crashed into the driver’s side of a small sport utility vehicle going southbound on Miller Road, police spokesman Capt. David Westrick said. The man suffered a broken leg, and road rash on his face and stomach.

The driver of the SUV, who was not identified, had no injuries.

The vehicle was traveling at the speed limit, Westrick said.

Investigators are still determining the speed of the motorcycle, but driving the off-road motorcycle on city streets is illegal, Westrick said.

“It’s illegal,” he said. “You cannot drive an off-road vehicle on a city street.”
