An adult male was in critical condition with major head trauma Thursday night after a group of teenagers attacked him in a store parking lot, according to the Hollister Police Department.

The incident was reported at 8 p.m. Thursday in the 1700 block of Airline Highway, in the parking lot between Kragen Auto Parts and McDonald’s, according to a statement from police.

Police alleged that three Hispanic teenagers attacked the victim – hitting and kicking him while he was on the ground – before taking his wallet and fleeing toward the alley behind the auto parts store.

Police described the suspects as being between 16 and 20 years old and between 5 feet 4 inches tall and 5 feet 8 inches tall, according to the HPD.

Police noted that “all suspects were possibly wearing blue or black shorts” and that one suspect “was reported wearing an all red shirt.” Investigators said the victim does not appear to have gang connections, but they are investigating it as a possible gang crime.

The victim was treated by the Hollister Fire Department and an ambulance and was later flown by helicopter to a Bay Area hospital, where he was listed in critical condition.

The Hollister Police Department is asking for the public’s help in solving this crime. Anyone with information regarding this incident is requested to call Officer Carlos Rodriguez at (831) 636-4330. People wishing to remain anonymous may call WeTIP at (800) 78-CRIME. Information provided to the National WeTip Anonymous Hotline may be eligible for a reward.
