Santa Clara resident Anthony Tamayo, 71, died around 1:25 p.m. Sunday afternoon when the 2013 Chrysler 300 he was driving ran off the highway near Burnette Avenue, just north of Cochrane Road on U.S. 101 in Morgan Hill.

According to the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office, Tamayo died of sudden cardiac death; a natural death of cardiac causes.

Tamayo, a solo driver, was northbound when he crashed his vehicle into a chain-link fence owned by Caltrans, according to Officer Erica Elias with the California Highway Patrol. Elias did not know of any other drivers who were injured in the accident.
She said the Chrysler was mildly damaged and that Tamayo was wearing his seat belt. Only a few people witnessed the accident, according to Elias.
