Hollister – An accident on San Felipe Road Monday afternoon claimed the life of one man and sent his female passenger to Hazel Hawkins Hospital.

The accident occurred just north of McCloskey Road on San Felipe at approximately 2:30pm according to Hollister Police Officer George Ramirez. Though Ramirez said the accident was still under investigation and few details were available by press time, police believe a large delivery truck struck a four-door sedan heading northbound on San Felipe.

“It does not appear that alcohol or drugs were involved in the accident,” Ramirez said.

Both victims of the accident were wearing their seatbelts according to police. The driver of the truck was uninjured and no citations were issued, Ramirez said. Names of the victims will not be released until the next of kin are notified Ramirez said, adding both victims were adults. Ramirez did not know if the victims were San Benito County residents.

The man died at the scene of the accident, Ramirez said, and he did not know the extent of the woman’s injuries.

The California Highway Patrol responded to the accident and helped direct traffic around the scene while police removed the wreckage and began their three-hour investigation. Ramirez said no other details were available and police could take up to 10 days to release a full report on the accident.
