Lifelong county resident
Lifelong county resident Manuel S. Duarte died Thursday, Nov. 21, 2002 at his home in Hollister after a lengthy illness. He was 60.

Mr. Duarte was most recently employed with Viking Door Co. He was a member of Mission San Juan Bautista.

He is survived by his wife of nine years, Lilia Duarte of Hollister; his brothers, Augustine, Ralph, Ramon and Pete Duarte, all of Hollister, and Lupe Duarte of Gilroy; his sisters, Mary Avalos and Sheila Duarte, both of Hollister, Lucy Herrera of San Jose, Paula Serrato of Salinas and Delores Rodriguez of Texas; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Augustine and Francisca Duarte; his sisters, Josie Ortega and Annie Sahagun; and his brothers, Manuel and Rudy Duarte and Johnny and Rudy Duarte.

Friends may pay their respects Sunday, Nov. 24 from noon to 9 p.m. at Black Cooper Sander Funeral Home. The Rosary will be recited Sunday at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. at Old Mission San Juan Bautista. Interment and graveside services will follow at San Juan District Cemetery.
