Maria Apolonia “Paula” Alonzo Mirelez

Passed away on Friday, January 8, 2010, at age 88. Maria Apolonia was known to most as Paula. She was born in Carrizo Springs, TX on October 22, 1921. Paula leaves behind sons: David, Ruben and Ray; daughters-in-law Sherry and Cathy; grandchildren: Sara, Nathaniel, Jacob, Joshua and Christopher, great-grandchildren: Wesley and Daniel, and many nieces and nephews. Her husband Richard M. Mirelez (d. 1989), her parents, and all of her brothers and sisters preceded her in death. She was the last of 11 siblings.

Paula was a resident of Gilroy since 1947. She was employed as a seasonal worker at California Canners and Growers (formerly know as Filice and Perry). She was a beautiful person both inside and out. She had a joyful spirit, was giving, loving, and caring. A long time volunteer at the Senior Center, she was recognized for her enthusiasm and hard work as “Volunteer of the Year 2001”. We loved her and will miss her greatly.

Friends and family are invited to attend the Viewing (which will start at 3:00 P.M.) and the Rosary on Wednesday, January 13th, with the service beginning at 7:00 P.M. at Habing Family Funeral Home, 129 4th Street in Gilroy.
