Mary I. Stone, age 68, after fighting lung cancer for seven years she passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family.
She is survived by her beloved husband, John J. Stone, loving son John J. (Dannalee) Stone, III, dearest sisters, Jerri Ann Hyden of Vidor, TX and Susan Weems of Village Mills, TX.
Mary was born in Gulfport, MS, but spent most of her childhood in the small south eastern Texas town of Bridge City.
She met her husband at Lamar University in Beaumont, TX and they were married on June 1, 1967. They moved to the San Jose area in the early 1969 and to Gilroy in 1979.
Her love of art sent her and her husband traveling to many places to explore art museums. Some of her favorites included the Louvre, The British National Museum, The Hermitage, The New York Metropolitan.
Her favorite city was Paris, where she spent almost four months over the years of her travels. She freq uently visited museums in both San Jose and San Francisco and she enjoyed being a season ticket holder to the San Jose opera and the San Jose Center for the Performing Arts for many years.
In 1979, she graduated from San Jose State as a Civil Engineer. She worked from 1979 to 1986 on the San Felipe project to bring water from San Luis reservoir to Calero Reservoir. In 1986 until her retirement in 2005, she worked for the Santa Clara Valley Water District in various civil engineering capacities.
After retiring in early 2005, she pursued her many interests including Tai Chi, yoga, gym classes, food, wine and she just recently joined WIT.
She loved and collected all types of music from blues to Zydeco and everything in between.
