Maureen Lillian Upton , age 67, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on June 30, 2015.
Maureen was born to John and Muriel Caporaso on May 26, 1948, in San Mateo, CA.
Maureen was dearly loved by her family and friends and will be deeply missed.
Family was most important to her. She had a loving husband, Fred Upton and four beautiful step-daughters: Karen Westfield, Lisa Cortese, Stephanie Gonzalez, Michelle Rodriquez and eight grandchildren. She is also survived by her loving mother, Muriel Caporaso, sister, Candy Montgomery and Art Byerlern completed her close-knit family.
She was predeceased by her father, John Caporaso, grandmother and grandfather, Margaret and Carl Miller and aunt, Charlotte Miller. Her twin sister, Daphne Caporaso Higbee died at the age of 25.
She was an amazingly strong woman, who lived her life with undying positive energy and sense of humor, even through her painful two year battle with cancer.
She was a graduate of Mills High School in Millbrae and San Jose State and a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority and Realtors’ Association.
She brought gifts of joy, love and laughter to everyone she knew, whether it was through her successful real estate broker business or entertaining friends and family. Maureen loved having parties and treated everyone to a taste of her gourmet cooking and creative talents. She kept a gorgeous home and garden and loved many activities, including antique collecting, arts and crafts, golfing, gambling, traveling and reading a good book. Most of all, she treasured spending time fishing and relaxing with family and friends at her cabin in the Sierras.
Maureen was an active member of the Gilroy Community for 35 years. She was involved in countless events, including those associated with her career, women’s service groups, and children’s charities.
She leaves a very empty space in our lives but will always be in our hearts.
