Hollister – A motorcyclist was sent to Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital after a head-on collision with a car on San Benito Street during rush hour traffic Tuesday evening.
The motorcyclist, who has not been identified, was southbound on San Benito Street when he collided with a white sedan attempting to make a left turn onto Flora Street from northbound San Benito, Hollister Police Chief Jeff Miller said.
The motorcyclist was taken by ambulance to Hazel Hawkins with moderate injuries, Miller said. He said he did not know the extent of the man’s injuries. The driver of the white sedan was not taken to the hospital. Police declined to identify either party involved in the collision Tuesday night.
Miller said alcohol was not believed to be a factor in the collision.
Immediately after emergency personnel arrived at the crash site, police officers working with deputies from the San Benito County Sheriff’s Office closed down the right lane of southbound traffic on San Benito Street for 35 minutes and directed motorists around the scene of the crash.
Traffic from Highway 25 was delayed from turning on to San Felipe Road while police cleared the scene, creating rush hour backups.
Police are investigating the incident, Miller said.
