Hollister police have arrested a wanted attempted murder suspect believed to narrowly escape authorities in Gilroy nearly two weeks ago.

After more than three hours, authorities gave up an intense hunt Tuesday evening near the Gilroy Sports Park for an “armed and dangerous” man wanted in connection with an attempted murder in Hollister on Easter Sunday last year.

The San Benito County Sheriff’s Office held testing for deputy sheriff positions on Feb. 28 at San Benito High School. According to an announcement from the office, there were 89 candidates who showed up to take the written test at the high school cafeteria, and 54 passed the written portion and went on to the physical agility part of the testing process. From there, 34 passed the physical and moved onto the oral interviews. At the end of this day, 25 candidates had passed all three stages of the test. The next step in the process is an administrative interview with the two sheriff’s captains, according to the office.

A search warrant Thursday resulted in the arrest of several suspects and the discovery drugs, according to an announcement from the Hollister Police Department.
