Patrick Murphy, a multi-talented man, passed away April 7, 2008 in Falls Church, Virginia. He was 89 years old. “Pat” was born in Farmersville, California and spent about 9 years in the Gilroy area until 2003. He was the last surviving sibling of seven. His sister and long-time resident of Gilroy, Veda Clark, passed away in 2006.

Pat Murphy is survived by his daughter, Diane Murphy Conwell and her husband, Gary Conwell of Goleta California; Two grandsons – Glenn Southern, his wife, Stephanie, and their two sons, Edward and Jeremy Southern of Reston, Virginia – and Paul Southern, his wife Megan, and their three children, Drake, Hailey, and Addison Southern of Pleasanton, California.

Patrick was a Navy radio operator in San Francisco on Dec. 7 1941. He received the first report of the Pearl Harbor attack, which he relayed. Through his life, he had many occupations but flourished best in the arts. Patrick sang professionally, painted prolifically, studied deeply, and loved to hike in the Sierras. He leaves a colorful legacy behind him.

A graveside funeral will be held 2:00 P.M.Friday, April 18, 2008 at the Exeter Cemetery District, 729 Ave. 288, Exeter, California.
