Phyllis E. Oates died Sunday, Dec. 7 at Mabie Skilled Nursing Facility. She was 78.

She was born in Ft. Bragg, Calif. She grew up in Ft. Bragg and lived in Watsonville for many years where she worked for Pajaro Dunes.

She came to Hollister eight years ago and lived in Watsonville for 15 years. She liked making arts and crafts and was very involved in her grandchildren’s lives.

She is survived by her children and their spouses Christy and Robert Thomas of Chico, Kenny and Cathy Henze of Canyon Lake, Texas and Pam and Robert Bravo of Hollister; brothers and sisters Walter Grass of Shelly, Idaho, Laverne King of San Mateo, Bessie Gaither of Watsonville and John Grass of Santa Rosa. She is also survived by nine grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Hugh Oates.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, Dec. 20 at 11 a.m. at Black Cooper Sander Funeral Home. Rev. Tom Kirkendall of Watsonville will officiate.

Arrangements and cremation are through Black Cooper Sander Funeral Home and Gavilan Hills Crematory.
